NEW EUROPE COLLEGE “SPIRU HARET” FELLOWSHIPS
Academic year 2018-19
New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest, Romania announces the competition for the “Spiru Haret” Fellowships for the academic year 2018-19.
The program targets young Romanian and International researchers/academics in the humanities and social sciences whose projects address questions relating to migration, displacement, and/or diasporas. Candidates are expected to focus on specific or comparative cases seen in broader historical, socio-economic, and political contexts. Such aspects as transnational mobility, migrant routes and networks, the impact of communication technologies and of digitalization, migration policies, border regimes, the development of transnational communities, remittances and entrepreneurial capital and their impact on families and communities, may be taken into account. NEC also welcomes projects which look at cultural phenomena (in literature, visual arts, music etc.) related to migration.
The Fellows will be integrated in the NEC community and will work, alongside other colleagues whose projects tackle similar questions, as a focus group in diaspora and migration studies, in accordance with the goal of the “Spiru Haret” Fellowship Program.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must hold a Ph.D.. Preference is given to candidates up to the age of 40, and to those who have not yet benefited from a NEC Fellowship.
Working languages: English, French, and German. A good command of English is desirable.
Duration of the Fellowship: a full academic year.
Location: New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study, Bucharest, Romania.
The Fellowship consists of: a monthly stipend of 750 Euro (tax free), accommodation and transportation costs for the Fellows residing outside Bucharest, and financial support for a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their choice. As an alternative, Fellows may opt to do field research related to their projects.
The Fellows are expected to work on their own projects, and take part in the scientific events organized by the New Europe College. At the end of their Fellowship, each Fellow is expected to submit a research paper, reflecting the results of his/her work over the duration of the Fellowship. The papers will be included in a NEC publication.

The deadline for the submission of applications is December 7, 2017.
Incomplete or late applications will not be taken into consideration.
We will acknowledge receipt of an application and confirm whether the application requirements have been met within 14 days after the deadline.
The applicants will be notified of the results of the pre-selection in the first half of March 2018, by e-mail. The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview, which will take place on April 18-20, 2018.
