CfA ”New Secular Religions”, with prof.dr. Nicu Gavriluță

This event will take place on the 18th of October, 16.00-18.00, Council Room, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work (Schitu Măgureanu. nr.9), sector 5, Bucharest.

,,We live in a world in which religiosity has unexpected sides see is the  secularisation we’ve covered the Occident and it is spreading at a global  level. In his book, Nicu Gavriluta analyses the rupture between the  traditional religions in the new secular ones which tend to generalise and  to bring major changes in our lives. Do you Internet, finances, new  mass-media, political correctness, transhumanism or posthumanism generate  radical modifications in politics society and in universal fields creating  new religions with still unknown gods. But is this the direction that we  want? The new secular religions raise some questions regarded the path we  choose to follow and tries to enlighten the positive and negative aspects  that might wait for us at the end of the road”.

Sovereignties in Contention: Nations, Regions and Citizens in Europe
Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
June 20-22, 2019

Sovereignty is at the crux of current developments in Europe and at the center of political debate—of which the 2016 referendum on Brexit is just one example.  The claim to regain national sovereignty vis-a-vis EU policy-making is common to populist movements throughout Europe today, and it currently dominates the rhetoric of the national governments of Hungary and Poland as well.  Anxieties about sovereignty are also key to understanding the demands put forward by regional entities such as Scotland, Catalonia, and Lombardy.

These fights for new forms of sovereignty – or the restoration of old ones – are surprising, even bewildering, to those who imagined that the process of European integration would render the concept of sovereignty obsolete.  Yet recent developments clearly show that sovereignty again has become a crucial concept in political, social and cultural fields.  It is increasingly invoked not only by regions, nations, and Europe itself, but also by minority populations, marginalized groups, and even individuals as the reason justifying their claims of self-governance, emancipation, or political empowerment.

Recent developments and the material challenges that complicate them – globalization, the digital revolution, mobility – call upon us to reflect on the motives, polities, concepts, and rhetorics of sovereignty more profoundly and, given the complexity of the challenges, to seek fresh approaches that transcend disciplinary boundaries.  “Sovereignties in Contention in Europe: Nations, Regions and Citizens” aims to provide an opportunity to bridge the gap between different models for the study of sovereignty: from a governmental and institutional perspective to looking at bottom-up processes, from socio-economic and legal aspects to questions of identity, nationhood, and historical memory.

We particularly welcome proposals in these areas, including cross-thematic and interdisciplinary papers, as well as proposals in other areas relevant to contemporary Europe.

Proposals may be submitted from August 10 to October 5, 2018. Priority will be given to panel submissions. Participants will be notified of the Program Committee’s decision by December 14, 2018.

Information on how to submit proposals will be posted on the CES website and disseminated through its newsletter. To subscribe to the CES newsletter visit: http://councilforeuropeanstudies.org/  For information on how to submit a proposal, please consult the Submission Help page or our newsletter.

CfP Southeast Europe Studies, 2018

The “Southeast Europe Studies” is an academic journal established by the Capital Normal University’s Center for Study of Civilizations. The purpose of the publication of this journal is to create an academic platform of communication, which will promote the development of the research of Southeast Europe in China, present the latest scientific results concerning Southeast European studies made in Southeast Europe, China and the rest of the world, and which will improve academic dialogue between the Chinese and the world’s research institutions and researchers.

By using, presenting and confronting the diverse perspectives which belong to the present, as well as those which belong to the past, the journal itself focuses on interpreting the various aspects of the Southeast Europe region. The content of the journal is divided into three main sections: history research, analysis of the current events and issues, and the information transfer. Once per year, with the approximate size of 150,000 words per issue, the journal will simultaneously publish papers in English and Chinese. Each issue will be arranged around one major theme, which will always be connected either directly with the area of Southeast Europe, or with the issues which deal with the Southeast Europe and the rest of the world.

The theme of the first issue, which is planned to be published at the end of the year 2018, is „The history and current state of research of the Southeast Europe in China and the world”. We are now calling out to researchers and Southeast Europe experts to join us and present their research results in China. The basic requirements are as follows:

1. Please make sure that your paper satisfies the theme requirement. The submitted papers should be between 8,000 and 15,000 words long.

2. The papers in English language should be submitted in the international APA format, while the papers Chinese language should be submitted in the format recognized by the “World History Journal” (世界历史).

3. Each paper should have an appropriate abstract and keywords. The length of the abstract of the papers submitted in English should not exceed 1,000 words, while the abstract of the papers in submitted in Chinese should not exceed 500 characters. Each paper should have 3-5 keywords.

4. With the submission, please do not forget to write the author’s name, year of birth, place of birth, employment institution, title, correspondence address, postal code, contact phone and the contact e-mail.

ARGUMENT
